Why does a Dunbar house have so many doors to lock?
Detached houses on bigger lots mean more entry points than a suite.
Dunbar is mostly detached houses, many built in the postwar decades, with front, side, back and garage doors on one property. Each door is its own lock, and each can be the one that fails.
Front, side and back doors
A key that is rarely used on the back door is the one that seizes. When you are locked out, the side or back door is often the way in.
Garage pass-through

Properties by the park
Houses near Pacific Spirit Regional Park often have several exterior doors, so one rekey that puts every lock on a single key saves carrying a ring of them.
Solid timber doors
Older timber doors take a lock well but are easy to split if a lock is forced. We open them without drilling where we can.

Rekey or replace after buying a Dunbar house?

Your own unit door is yours to open or rekey. Lobby, parkade and common-area keys, and building fobs, belong to the strata. We never copy or program them.
Rentals
Check with your landlord before changing a rental lock. A tenant locked out of a garden suite can still be let in, with ID that shows the suite address.

Often, yes. We open whichever door suits the lock and the frame, after checking ID and proof of residence.
02Can you work on the original hardware on my older Dunbar door?
