A private, mobile locksmith for the far end of the Point Grey peninsula: the leasehold condos at Wesbrook Village and Hampton Place, the houses in the University Endowment Lands, and every car parked out here with the keys shut inside it.
Private homes, leasehold condos and cars. Not the university's own doors, and the difference matters.
The end of the peninsula is its own place. West of Pacific Spirit Regional Park you leave the City of Vancouver entirely: the campus is institutional land run by the university, and the residential blocks along Chancellor Boulevard, Acadia Road and Western Parkway are the University Endowment Lands, a separate unincorporated area administered by the Province. Everything shares a V6T postal code and almost nobody out here is sure who to phone for what. So here is the honest answer first.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorised by the University of British Columbia. UBC runs its own campus locksmithing and its own residence key and access-card systems, and those stay with UBC. If you are locked out of a residence room in Totem Park, Place Vanier, Orchard Commons or Marine Drive Residence, if your student card has stopped opening a lab or a building door, or if you live in university-managed family housing at Acadia Park, that call goes to UBC Student Housing and Community Services, or to UBC Building Operations for an academic or administrative building. It does not come to us, and it should not go to any private locksmith. Nobody outside the university should be opening, rekeying or duplicating a key for a door the university controls. A locksmith who offers to is a locksmith to hang up on.
What is left after that carve-out is most of the housing on the peninsula, and all of it is ordinary private property. The strata condos and townhouses at Wesbrook Village, Hampton Place, Hawthorn Place and Chancellor Place are individually owned homes, many of them held on long leases. The detached houses in the endowment lands are freehold. Your own front door is yours. We can open it, rekey it, change it, or cut you a spare for it, the same as anywhere else in Vancouver.
This is the call we take most often from UBC, and it is the one we are built for. The peninsula is full of people who park once and leave the car for eight or ten hours: students in the Rose Garden and Thunderbird parkades, staff along Wesbrook Mall and East Mall, beach and trail traffic up on NW Marine Drive. A key that goes missing at hour eight has a very large site to go missing in, and the car is a long way from any dealership.
We come to the vehicle. Car key replacement is cut and programmed on the spot for most makes, transponder keys and remote fobs included, so a lost key is a same-visit fix rather than a tow across town and a week without a car. Automotive lockouts are the other half of it: keys visible on the seat, doors locked, spare in a drawer at your parents' house. And if you still have one working key and want a second before exams or a long drive home, key cutting is the five-minute version of this problem, and doing it now beats doing it at 1 a.m. in a parkade. One limit worth knowing: if the car sits inside a gated parkade or a building's underground, we cannot badge ourselves in, so you or building staff need to get us to it. Say so when you call.
Tenancies here move on an academic clock rather than the usual one. A lot of the peninsula changes hands at the end of August and again in late April, and a lot of it changes hands quietly mid-term when one person in a shared suite leaves. If a housemate moves out and the key does not come back, the fix is a rekey, not a new lock: same hardware, new pins, old keys dead. It takes minutes per cylinder and it is the single most useful thing a landlord can do between tenants.
If you own a few units out here (a couple of suites in Wesbrook Village, a basement suite off Acadia Road, a townhouse rented to a grad student) we will do them in one visit, keyed alike so you carry one key, or kept independent so one tenant's lost key never touches another suite. Mid-tenancy lost-key replacement is the same call, and our residential locksmith service covers all of it.
The most common misunderstanding at Hampton Place and Wesbrook Village is that your key and your fob are one system. They are two. The deadbolt or lever on your own suite door is yours, and we can rekey or replace it. The fob that opens the lobby, the parkade gate, the gym and the elevator belongs to the building's access-control system. Those credentials are registered to the building and issued by the strata or its contractor, and a locksmith cannot clone one. Lost your fob? That is a note to the strata manager, not a call to us.
Mailbox banks sit in between. In some buildings the locks are Canada Post's responsibility and go through Canada Post, in others the bank belongs to the strata. Describe what you are looking at and we will tell you straight which one you have, and where it is the strata's we can rekey or replace the cylinder.
We dispatch mobile trucks from across Vancouver and reach the peninsula on West 16th Avenue, University Boulevard or NW Marine Drive. It is the end of the line geographically, so we quote a realistic window instead of an optimistic one. Mid-afternoon on a teaching day is not the same run as 11 p.m. in July. One thing that genuinely speeds us up: campus and Wesbrook addresses are often a building name rather than a street number, so give us the building name and the nearest cross street, and tell us if you are behind a gate.
