Condo towers, low-rises and old houses in the West End
Between Burrard, English Bay, Stanley Park and Coal Harbour, the doors are packed close and the age range is wide.
The West End is one of the most densely built parts of Vancouver. Most suite doors here sit in a stack of other suite doors, so the lock work is mostly about the one door that is yours.
Concrete towers
Newer towers near Beach Avenue and the seawall are strata buildings. Your suite door is yours. Lobby, parkade and building fobs are the strata's.
Older low-rise apartments
Mid-century walk-ups and low-rises on streets like Jervis, Gilford and Nicola often still carry hardware that has been turned for decades.
Heritage houses

Why West End door locks stick and wear out
Ocean air, old buildings and heavy daily use are hard on a lock. Most sticking keys here are a tired cylinder, not a bad copy.

Many West End residents want to stop carrying a key to the suite. A keypad deadbolt goes on your own suite door and leaves the building's lobby and fob system alone.

A mortise lock on a heritage house
An old mortise set has a lock body inside the door, not a simple bolt in a hole. We look at it before anything is removed, then tell you whether to adjust it, rekey it or replace it.
If a modern deadbolt is wanted, it can often be added without changing the original face hardware.

Usually, yes. If the cylinder is sound and has not been drilled, we rekey it at your door. Only the new key works afterwards, and the previous owner's or tenant's copy stops working.
02My building uses restricted keys. Can you still help?
Possibly. Tell us the building on the call and we will say what is possible. If the key cannot be matched, a keypad or a second deadbolt on your own suite door is often the practical fix.
03Do you work on heritage houses near Barclay Heritage Square?
Yes. Older mortise locksets are a different job from a modern deadbolt. We look at the lock first, then tell you whether to adjust, rekey or replace it.
04How much is a West End condo lockout?
It depends on the lock and the hour. A smart or high-security lock takes longer than a plain deadbolt. The total for your suite is confirmed on the call.

06Can you copy my West End tower fob?
No. In a West End tower the fob, the parkade remote and any common-area key belong to the strata. We never copy or program them. Suite keys are fine to copy.
