► 01 / Volkswagen keys

VW keys, cut and coded.

A lost or snapped Volkswagen key doesn't have to mean a flatbed to the nearest VW dealership and a week without your car. Our mobile techs carry VW flip-key blanks and the diagnostic gear to cut and program most Volkswagens right where they're parked — from an older Golf to a current Tiguan or Atlas.

When you call us for Volkswagen key replacement in Vancouver, a licensed locksmith comes to your location with the key stock and programming tools already on the truck. We handle the classic VW three-button flip key — the one where the metal blade folds into the fob — as well as older remote-head keys and the KESSY proximity smart keys on newer models. Whether the blade snapped in the ignition, the remote buttons died, or you've lost every copy, we diagnose it on-site and, for the vast majority of VWs, finish the job in a single visit.

A note on MQB, the immobiliser & component protection

Volkswagen has run through a few immobiliser generations, and being honest about them saves you a wasted trip. Older VWs — roughly pre-2015, plus many base models after — use systems we can read and program on-site, including all-keys-lost work. Newer cars built on the MQB platform (later Golf, Jetta, Tiguan, Atlas, and shared Audi models) add component protection and online rolling codes: adding a spare key when you still have a working key is usually straightforward, but a full all-keys-lost on a protected MQB immobiliser can require the dealer's online (ODIS) access. Tell us your exact year and model on the phone and we'll confirm whether it's an on-site job or a dealer job before we roll a truck — so you never pay for an attempt we can't complete.

What's included

  • On-site cutting of VW flip-key blades (HU66 and newer high-security profiles)
  • Transponder programming to your Volkswagen's immobiliser
  • Remote programming — lock, unlock, trunk and panic functions
  • KESSY / proximity smart-key supply and programming for supported models
  • Spare-key add when you still have one working key — faster and lower cost
  • All-keys-lost service on supported VW immobiliser generations
  • Fob reshell and battery replacement when the electronics are fine but the case is worn
  • Honest pre-check — we confirm MQB / component-protection status before we book

Typical price ranges

Key typeTypical range
VW flip-key blade, cut only (no chip)$45–$95
Transponder flip key (cut + program, spare with working key)$150–$280
Remote flip key (integrated remote + chip)$190–$340
KESSY proximity smart key (push-to-start)$300–$520
All-keys-lost (supported immobiliser, re-enrol)$350–$650
Fob reshell / battery / button repair$30–$80

Ranges cover parts, labour and programming. Newer MQB models and KESSY proximity keys sit at the higher end, and a protected all-keys-lost that must go to the dealer is quoted separately. We confirm your exact price on the phone once we have your year, make and model — no surprises when we arrive.

How it works

01

Call with your VIN

Tell us your VW's year, model and VIN if you have it. The VIN lets us confirm the right key type and whether component protection applies, so we can quote a firm range right on the call.

02

We come to the car

A mobile tech heads to wherever the Volkswagen is parked — your driveway in Dunbar, a lot in Kitsilano, or a parkade in Yaletown. No tow, no dealer queue.

03

Cut, code, verify

We cut the blade to your VW's key code, program the transponder to the immobiliser, sync the remote or proximity functions, and test start, lock and unlock before we pack up.

Volkswagen owners all over Vancouver

Volkswagen is one of the most common makes on Vancouver driveways — the Golf and Jetta commuters crossing the Cambie Bridge, the Tiguan and Atlas family haulers around Kerrisdale and Point Grey, the older Passats and Beetles that are still going strong. When a key goes missing at the Oakridge mall parkade, at the Kitsilano Beach parking lot, or in a strata garage in Yaletown, you want a locksmith who already covers the area and carries VW stock — not a company that has to order the part in.

We're local to Vancouver, so we know the routes and the parking areas, and we can reach you from Downtown and the West End to Marpole and out to Commercial Drive. That means a lost VW key is usually a same-day fix rather than a multi-day dealer appointment — and if yours is a protected MQB that genuinely needs the dealer, we'll tell you straight instead of wasting your time.

FAQ

How much does a Volkswagen key replacement cost in Vancouver?
For most VWs, a programmed transponder flip key runs about $150–$340, and a KESSY proximity smart key $300–$520. All-keys-lost costs more because the immobiliser has to be re-enrolled from scratch. We confirm your exact price on the phone once we have your year, model and VIN.
Can you program a VW flip key, or do I have to go to the dealer?
For the large majority of Volkswagens we cut and program the flip key on-site — no dealer needed. The exception is a full all-keys-lost on newer MQB models with component protection, which can require the dealer's online (ODIS) access. We tell you which category your car falls into before we book.
My Volkswagen is push-to-start (KESSY) — can you make a proximity key?
Yes, for supported models. KESSY proximity smart keys cost more than a standard flip key, and we confirm availability for your exact year and trim on the call before we head out — no guessing when we arrive.
Are there any VW or Audi keys you can't do on-site?
Some newer MQB-platform VWs and Audis with component protection need the manufacturer's online tools for all-keys-lost programming. Adding a spare when you still have a working key is usually fine on-site; a protected all-keys-lost may be a dealer job. We're upfront about this before we roll a truck.
I lost all my VW keys — can you still make a new one?
On supported immobiliser generations, yes — we perform an all-keys-lost procedure that re-initialises the immobiliser and enrols a fresh key, so the lost keys can no longer start the car. On protected MQB models this may need the dealer; tell us your year and model and we'll confirm before we head out.
How long does VW key programming take?
Adding a spare flip key with a working key on hand is usually 20–40 minutes. All-keys-lost or KESSY proximity programming can run 45–90 minutes depending on the immobiliser generation. We give you an honest time estimate on the phone.
